Abstract
The 3 movements which affect the safety and level of service of an intersection most are: the crossing itself, left-turn from the main road, left-turn from secondary roads. This report examines the capacity and level of service of intersections as a function of the traffic flow measured and of the existing priority conditions, drawing attention to the most frequently found cases: priority controlled with signals (inside or outside urban areas) and signs, and possible measures for solving problems and preventing accidents. The safety studies of intersections on the road network in Spain are examined, and statistical data on accidents and accident black spots are provided.
