Abstract
A field investigation consisting of 57 cone penetrometer soundings and nine conventional soil borings was conducted in Salt Lake County, Utah for use in a regional evaluation of liquefaction potential. Samples were obtained from conventional borings using the Standard Penetration Test and classified in a laboratory testing program. By correlation of cone penetrometer data with soil type and standard penetration, soils susceptible to liquefaction may be identified and use made of known empirical relationships in calculation of acceleration required to cause liquefaction at a particular site.
