The economics of urban goods movements

A consideration of the nature of the urban goods movement task leads to the conclusion that it is very closely interwoven with all other forms of urban movement and that this results in considerable difficulties in analysing urban goods movement in isolation from total urban movement. Even it its internal organisation, urban goods movement is a highly complex activity. The complexity of the overall situation and the very limited amount of information currently available suggests that it is unlikely, even given considerable research input, that rational overall policies regarding pricing, regulation or public ownership could be developed in the near future.
