Abstract
The paper deals with the application of modern computer methods for improving the hydrodynamic qualities of a ship hull at the pre-contract stage of design. An optimisation approach to hull geometry was used and a re-analysis of resistance calculation methods for semi-displacement ships was carried resulting in a method for defining the hydrodynamic characteristics (residuary resistance coefficient, running trim angle) for semi-displacement ships. A comparison of the calculations with experiments showed a satisfactory agreement.
