School pick up and drop off road safety project

One of the foremost concerns of parents is the safety of their children. Yet in our efforts to keep children safe and out of harms way, we are inadvertently creating congested and unsafe traffic environments in and around our schools, putting children even more at risk. The primary objective of the program is to provide a safe environment for children to enter and exit their school grounds, whilst encouraging the school community to take ownership of the problem, and to recognise individual responsibility in providing safe drop off and pick up environments for fellow school families and friends. Initial outcomes of the project have been very positive, and although evaluations are not finalised, the anecdotal evidence thus far indicates a significant change in traffic behaviour and a considerable reduction in traffic congestion around the school. Feedback from the school community has been generally positive, and participation rates of teachers, children and their families have been extremely high.
