Abstract
Three different traffic systems, namely the road network, railway and underground railway, and their importance for the localization of working places and residential areas have been studied. Of most importance for density is the underground railway. Areas with an urban railway have approximately ten times more working places than areas without. The working places are generally located nearer the town centre than the residential area. The land use pattern has generally a weaker effect on the density of working places than the traffic system has. (TRRL)
