Abstract

This article describes the history, development, and technical details of the Adelaide busway. The planning and decision process that resulted in the construction of this first application of the O-Bahn dual mode bus guidance technology to a high speed operation was a long and controversial exercise. By contrast, the construction and operation have been remarkably problem free for a new technology, and the system has proved to be highly attractive to its potential users.
