Abstract

This paper is divided into three parts. Part 1 deals with the technical and legal background for the development of the Structural Eurocodes in the European Committee for Standardization (CEN). Part 2 describes the safety concepts applicable to the Eurocodes such as the principles of limit state design and the intended verification procedures used. Part 3 considers specific questions concerning those sections of the structural design which cater for the effects of a fire, and for the efffects of soil-structure interaction. The French title for this paper is: Eurocodes structuraux - Concept general. The German title for this paper is: Eurocodes fuer den konstruktiven Ingenieurbau - Generalkonzept. For the covering abstract of the conference see IRRD 855476.
