Abstract

The paper outlines the fundamental principles of the five general methods of navigation: Dead Reckoning Celestial Navigation Electronic Navigation Inertial Navigation Satellite Navigation Some standard and newly-developed systems are described. These include the TRANSIT/NNSS (Navy Navigation Satellite System) and the NAVSTAR/Global Positioning System (GPS) which are described in detail.
