Abstract
A roadside survey was conducted between 7 p.m. and 3 a.m. during which seat belt use was observed and the drivers were interviewed. Only 14.0% of the drivers were observed to be wearing seat belts. Seat belt use by 49,082 drivers involved in vehicle accidents was also investigated. Seat belt use was 21.6%, 16.8%, and 11.8% for drivers involved in property-damage, injury, and fatal crashes, respectively. Seat belt use at night, by crash-involved drivers, is approximately 10% lower than average. /Author/
