Abstract

This article discusses pedestrian safety in the Washington, D.C., area. Included is information on factors contributing to pedestrian accidents, and on measures that are being used to reduce pedestrian injuries and fatalities. Such measures include increased enforcement to prevent traffic violations, ticketing jaywalkers, and school child traffic safety education. Cities in the area recognized by AAA for their pedestrian safety achievements in 1984 are listed.
