Abstract

Due to the ever more important environmental criteria imposed on road designers, and considering the required flexibility of computer aided road design tools, a flexible integrated software environment for road design and evaluation is discussed in this paper. Apart from the usual junctions needed in road design, the required functions of a geographic information system, and some additional unconventional functions, are included. The possibility of fast quantitative evaluation and comparison of road design variants is the most outstanding objective of the integrated system. Two software tools, a classical road design program and a geographic information system have been integrated in the new software environment RoDEE - Road Design and Evaluation Environment. For the covering abstract see IRRD 873901.
