Abstract

An ETC (electronic toll collection) system has been publicly available since March 30, 2001 in Japan as an application system using DSRC (dedicated short range communications) technology by which an RSU (road-side unit) can communicate with OBE (on-board equipment). In order to apply DSRC to various applications other than ETC systems high data communication speed and wide communication area will be enhanced in the future DSRC specification to be available in the middle of this year. In this situation, NEC has developed a new DSRC- based communication technology that enables the users of cars running on the highway to access the Internet using car navigation systems or PDAs for a long time
