IMPROVING THE BUS JOURNEY WITHIN LONDON

This paper discusses the problems and potential for bus services in London, UK. Inadequate funding, inexperienced and overworked staff, and poor cleanliness make bus travel a less than pleasant experience. Bus priority measures and parking regulations must be harmonised with the advent of congestion charging, and utilities and emergency services must not misuse priority lanes. Sightseeing tourist buses are seen as poor quality vehicles and insufficiently controlled. The speaker hopes that fares will become increasingly paid by means of passes or smart cards.
