Abstract

When designing a pipe laying barge it is necessary to obtain the deflections and stresses of the pipe during laying operations. For this, a non-linear approach is required. It is necessary to take into account the influence of different boundary conditions ensuing from the characteristics of the barge and also the environmental factors. The paper describes an analysis for shallow waters which predicts the static equilibrium curve of a pipeline during laying, and the consequent stress level.
