The transport system: Markets, modes and policies

This book is divided into three main parts. The first part describes the development of transport policy for the transport system as a whole. The second part considers the application of transport policy within specific markets and modes. The third part of this book summarizes the views of the authors on what should be the optimum policy for transport systems and gives an outline sketch of the characteristics likely for a transport system based on the recommended policy from the two previous sections. The book concentrates mainly on transport systems in Great Britain but also presents European Union's transport policy. Transport policy in developing countries and countries in transition are also discussed. The book is a wealth of knowledge for those studying transport economics and presents a description of the development of transport policy and the critique of current policies.
