Abstract
Concrete pavements may be used for a wide range of applications from footpaths and domestic driveways to airports and industrial areas such as container terminals. In recent times, there has been a resurgence of interest in the use of concrete for road construction ranging from residential streets to freeways. This paper provides a current status report on the design concepts and procedures used in the determination of the thickness and composition of concrete pavements; on jointing and reinforcing principles; and on material requirements. Construction and maintenance techniques are also detailed, and in order to assist designers with pavement selection, the perceived advantages and limitations of concrete pavements are discussed in addition to economic considerations (a).
A significance statement is not available in the OpenAlex record.
