TRAFFIC NOISE AS IT RELATES TO HIGHWAYS

Abstract

This report contains the following: (1) an introduction to the fundamentals of sound; (2) a list of the principal sources of traffic noise in order of their ascending contribution to the noise environment on city streets and freeways; (3) a discussion of the general principals of traffic noise control; and (4) traffic noise prediction methods. A short method for noise calculation is presented in the appendix.
