Abstract
In promoting city planning, it is necessary to facilitate the movement of the elderly and the disabled, in order to support their independent life and thereby enable them to realize a satisfactory social life. In Japan, as in other countries, plans are being carried out to remove barriers to the elderly and the disabled in designing railway terminals, which serve as links of various transportation facilities (e.g. roads and underground shopping center passages). This paper presents the Hankyu Railway Itami Station plan now under way, as a plan for realizing a user-friendly railway terminal. Also proposed is a method of evaluating the service level of facilities for barrier-free passenger movement.
