Abstract

The road traffic in Japan, increasingly overcrowded and complicated, is assuming serious dimensions as a result of the increase of traffic casualties, worsening of traffic congestion in big city areas, and the increase of illegal parking. In order to cope with such conditions, namely to stop the increase of traffic accidents, solve the traffic congestion to realize safe and smooth operation of road traffic, National Police Agency has been reinforcing the establishment of traffic order by introducing countermeasures such as short-time parking, improvement of facilities for traffic safety with associated proper guidance and control. Traffic administration has also been improved to meet the needs of the people and the present traffic situation, by the development of AMTICS as well as the construction of the Central Safe Driving Institute, along with international cooperation on traffic control technology.(A)
