Abstract

Traffic and mobility are important fields of action in a city! Therefore, the design of an efficient, environmentally friendly and urbanely tolerable traffic system, which ensures sustainable traffic and transport services for people and goods, is the main topic of transport and traffic planning. Future traffic, however, can only be kept to the common satisfaction if it is organised and influenced in a focused way by means of modern telematics information, guidance technologies and innovative management strategies. Traffic management means the holistic implementation of collective and individual traffic information and influencing measures to optimise the urban traffic. Stadtinfokln is a research and development project run by the city of Cologne and 15 partners and is partly financed by the Federal Ministry for Education and Research. It is divided into 15 work packages performing the tasks described. The work-packages can be grouped into the four areas 'information and services', 'technology', 'evaluation' and 'organisation'. These areas overlap with each other, since there are interactions, e.g. the production of services involves many technical components. The main topic of the work package 'Motorised-Individual-Transport' is to detect the traffic on the main road-network and to inform drivers about the current traffic situation. Stadtinfokln will set up collective and individual services dealing with information supplied from the Strategic Control Module.
