Abstract

Data are presented on the population and area of cities towns and urban agglomerations in India at each census between 1872 and 1971. The urban units of each district are classified according to whether they were part of British India or of princely states during the period 1872-1941. An effort has also been made to examine and correct any discrepancies in the original data. (ANNOTATION)
