Abstract
The views of Matej Augustin, Slovakia's ZSSK Cargo's Chief Executive Officer, in regard to rail freight are presented. Augustin believes that rail infrastructure charges are too high, and that unless they are significantly reduced in the near future, rail freight will lose its competitive edge over road freight. In order to do this, steps should be taken by policy makers to increase freight-oriented investment in railroad infrastructure, while simultaneously decreasing track access charges.
