Abstract
The addition of pavement preservation (PP) components to a pavement management system (PMS) can enhance both the PMS and the PP program. This article discusses the potential benefits of a successful PP program, which include higher customer satisfaction, increased safety, increases in cost savings and effectiveness, and improved pavement condition. A PP program should be included in any agency's PMS; however, it remains a challenging task to add the PP component to a PMS, requiring knowledge of asset management and systems engineering.
