Abstract
This investigation into pavement rutting examined nine test sites, including areas of new and old pavements, high and low speed traffic, excellent and very poor rutting performance. The rutting performance was related to the asphalt concrete properties immediately after construction using regression analysis and threshold analysis. The regression analysis indicated that the rate of rutting correlated well with air voids, voids filled, asphalt content and hveem stability. Conclusions are drawn regarding the effect of the various parameters on rutting performance and specific recommendations are made for minimizing rutting potential.
