Abstract

The private automobile and public transportation are the two most commonly used forms of urban transportation in the United States. They can be combined in the park-and-ride concept by using each form in the operating environment to which it is best suited. By using park-and-ride, commuters can drive to a conveniently located park-and-ride lot, park their vehicles or be dropped off and then transfer to a transit mode to complete their trips.
