CAPACITY AND LEVEL OF SERVICE CONDITIONS ON DANISH TWO-LANE HIGHWAYS AND MOTORWAYS

Abstract

In an effort to determine if the information provided for 2-lane highways in the Highway Capacity Manual was valid under Danish conditions, systematic recordings were carried out on four different sections of rural highways in eastern Denmark. The results of the survey are presented and discussed. The preparation of Danish directives for the calculation of capacity and level of service for 2-lane highways is detailed, as well as the preparation of directives for the calculations for motorways. The survey revealed that, other factors being equal, Danish motorists drive at higher speeds than those indicated in the Manual.
