Abstract
Researchers and policymakers have heightened their calls for improvements to bicycle and pedestrian facilities. However, planners and engineers have continued to implement traditional approaches and some recently evolving trends in bicycle transportation have largely escaped the notice of planners. It is time for planners to embrace evolving innovations in bicycle transportation systems and push for implementation. This article provides a primer on some of these evolving trends and innovations in bicycle transportation.
