Abstract

This paper, originally presented at the 67th Annual Convention of the American Transit Association in Atlantic City, New Jersey, discusses developments taking place in urban traffic patterns in the late 1940s of relevance to transit system operations. These include: changes in vehicles of urban traffic; regulations designed to improve street traffic movement; and the plans and designs of new facilities for traffic improvement purposes. The impacts of these trends on urban transit systems are examined.
