Abstract

The capacity of high-grade highways under mixed traffic flow is explored in this paper. An analytical expression of highway capacity under different vehicle type proportions is gained through the study on different front and back car following sequences. Ideal capacity is achieved based on the computer simulation of the three parameters - critical density, critical speed and traffic volume. At the same time, the influence of mixed rate on speed under mixed traffic flow is attained as well as the conclusion that there is no linear relationship between lane space occupancies of big and small vehicles. Finally, the influence of other factors on the capacity under mixed traffic flow is discussed.
