Abstract
The author develops an expression for calculating the distribution of average urban population density at a distance from a town centre, with reference to a number of Australian towns. The distribution, distance travelled and speed of traffic in towns are discussed, and another expression developed for calculating the relation between speed and amount of travel in town centres. The expression is then applied to a number of towns and values obtained for the number of vehicles that can use a town centre per hour.
