Abstract

All nuclear utilities strive to control costs and increase profitability while insuring proper safety of their power plants. This paper presents a brief update of the cost situation as it relates to (a) relative electricity production costs, (b) nuclear-specific costs over the 1981-1989 time period, (c) the reason behind the cost increases, and (d) what can be done to stem the increases.
