Abstract

The author considers the effects of the new highway code on road safety. It is considered necessary that the driver be free from avoidable stresses so that these do not affect his behavior and health. In order to achieve this there is need for intensive education of road users, high quality road construction, advanced technical developments in vehicles, and sensible traffic control. The author feels that the new highway code has proved itself a real aid to all road users during its first year. /TRRL/
