Abstract
New guided urban transit systems are being proposed as an intermediate offer between bus and rail transit. Most of these systems are on tires and enable both automated and driver steering. Another system is a light rail system, aimed at intermediate traffic volumes between 1,000 and 4,000 travelers per hour and at an approximate cost of US $8 million/km. This paper looks at these systems and discusses the diversity of functional approaches, as well as cost analysis for the systems under planning and already on order for France.
