Abstract

This article surveys the current status of wheelchair accessibility on buses in light of a February 13, 1989 U.S. Court of Appeals ruling requiring that all new transit buses be wheelchair lift-equipped and paratransit service provided. Project ACTION (Accessible Community Transportation in our Nation), current technology for wheelchair lifts, and wheelchair lift operating costs for transit agencies are also discussed in brief.
