Abstract

In 1984 the Ministry of Public Works of Chile began implementation of a pavement maintenance management system, the preparation for which invovled detailed analyses of 18 asphalt pavement sections and 21 portland cement pavement sections. This paper analyzes the feasibility of integrating this pavement management system experience with the Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP). To ensure the success of this possible integration, a general methodology is presented, one that could also be useful to other countries interested in participating in the SHRP/LTPP (long term pavement performance) studies.
