Abstract
Public transit companies are facing problems in assuring an acceptable level of transit supply in off-peak hours and/or in sparsely populated areas. In both cases, the demand for transportation is weak and not concentrated and the level of public transit supply is, as a result, low. This article describes demand-responsive public transit illustrated by two examples: Ruf-Bus in Wunstorf, Germany and a shared taxi service in Linz, Austria.
