Abstract
The movement of people and goods involves a degree of conflict which often results in the need to impose constraints on the operations of road users so as to achieve behaviour or operation which is in accord with a general policy on traffic and traffic management. Traffic control devices, when used in a systematic manner, are the tools used to achieve the required operational equilibrium as measured by safety, mobility, amenity, etc. This section outlines some of the common traffic control devices, techniques and systems, and raises the possibility of further measures to improve safety and assist in achieving strategic objectives. (A) For the covering abstract see IRRD 878474.
