New automatic vehicle location (AVL) equipment based on low frequency radio frequency identification device (RFID) battery-less tags embedded in the infrastructure (road) and tag reading equipment on vehicles is described. It provides new opportunities for city traffic management in applications such as traffic signal priority, passenger information, bus terminal management and fleet management.
