Abstract
In order to compare the profitability of ballasted track/slab track, a study has been carried out for the German Federal Railway (DB) new high-speed line Cologne - Rhine/Main taking all conceivable influences relevant to investment expenditure and maintenance costs of the entire infrastructure system, in addition to purely track specific features into consideration. This article looks at the outcome of this study.
