Waste Management, Inc. has made a national and multinational industry out of solid waste disposal. The three largest companies in the business illustrate how efficient management and equipment, minimal crews, and tight scheduling can lower solid-waste costs for municipalities. Waste management's growth in chemical and hazardous waste disposal has grown with the stiffening of environmental regulations and is reflected in eight chemical operations with laboratories to analyze and monitor wastes.
