Abstract
The design of the optimum propeller, i.e. the propeller whose delivered hp requirement is a minimum for given hull form and rpm is one of the most important problems for the ship designer. However, the study here described, it was found that the propulsion characteristics of the propeller with optimum pitch-distribution were similar to those of the constant-pitch propeller. The Authors now intend to examine the optimum propeller in relation to cavitation inception rather than from the standpoint of propulsion characteristics. Order from BSRA as No. 51,197.
