THE OPTICAL PRODUCTION OF PERFECT ALIGNMENTS IS EXPLAINED FROM A MATHEMATICAL AND CALCULATION VIEWPOINT FOR USE IN PRACTICAL DESIGN WORK. SPATIAL CURVES WHICH ARISE IN THE ALIGNMENTS OF HIGHWAYS, ARE SO ANALYSED, THAT THE CAUSES OF REPRODUCTION ERRORS, WHICH ARE INVESTIGATED, ARE COMPREHENSIBLE. THE MATHEMATICAL EXPRESSIONS AND EQUATIONS IN THIS WORK, WHICH ARE INTENDED MAINLY TO SERVE IN VECTOR CALCULATION, LEAD TO A FORMULA, IN WHICH THE CURVE IN THE IMAGE PLANE IS EXPRESSED AS A FUNCTION OF THE CURVATURE OF THE THREE DIMENSIONAL COVER. THE NUMERICAL CHECK ON THREE DIMENSIONAL CURVES, WHICH IS NECESSARY IN THE ALIGNMENT OF HIGHWAYS, IS NOT REPLACEABLE - PARTICULARLY IN THE CASE OF FREQUENT CHANGES OF SIGN. THE DESIGN METHOD SHOULD, THEREFORE, BE ALTERED, SO THAT SPATIAL OR THREE DIMENSIONAL CURVES ARE MADE UP OF INDIVIDUAL ALIGNMENTS FOR PLAN AND ELEVATION. SUCCESSIVE ALIGNMENT CURVES ACCORDING TO FREISING,F SHOULD BE CALCULATED ACCORDING TO SUCH A METHOD.
