Abstract
The self propulsion factors should be known as accurately as possible in order to estimate the propulsion performance such as the hull resistance and/or the propeller characteristics of the ship in service. It has been pointed out that the self propulsion factors, especially the wake fraction, are influenced by some factors of ship operation condition, and among which the propeller load is most important. As for the CPP, however, any report having investigated the influence of propeller load on the self propulsion factors does not seem to have published so far. In this paper, therefore, the self propulsion factors of the model ship of Fukae-maru equipped with the model CPP are examined over a wide range of propeller load. The propeller-load-varying method makes it possible to detect not only the effective wake fraction but also the nominal and the propeller cylindrical vortex model. The results of the tank tests reveal the quantitative relations between the self propulsion factors and the propeller load coefficient.
