Abstract
A recent study has shown that epoxy coating, used to protect bridge deck reinforcement bars from corrosion, can significantly increase the lifespan of a reinforced-concrete bridge deck. The study, sponsored by the Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institute, has confirmed what anecdotal evidence suggested: in corrosive environments, epoxy-coated reinforcing bars are far more resilient than uncoated bars. In fact, this method can add as many as 40 years to the service life of a bridge deck.
A significance statement is not available in the OpenAlex record.
