Abstract
Provinces in central and Atlantic Canada currently allow carriers to use liftable axles on heavy trucks, thus increasing payloads considerably for a small increase in both tare weight and in operating costs. This report summarizes research into the economic and operations aspects of such trucks under five possible regulatory scenarios. The study does not include aspects of highway infrastructure and safety.
