Abstract

A discursive description is given of the characteristics of new fossil and synthetic fuels and the special problems they will present. The fuels considered are: fossil fuels (western coal, Alaskan oil, and shale oil), fuels from processing coal (solid refined coal, synthetic oil, and methanol), and products from coal gasification. The combustion of these fuels in conventional firing, two-stage combustion, and fluidized-bed combustion is considered from the corrosion aspect. (JSR)
