FIRST RESULTS OF EUROPEAN ATT PILOT PROJECTS

Abstract

Launched by the European Union, the Advanced Transport Telematics program (ATT, 1992-1994) also known as DRIVE II, is mainly focused on testing feasibility of first R and D results on real test sites. Pilot projects cover different areas such as demand management, traffic and travel information, urban and interurban traffic management, cooperative driving, freight or public transport management. Though this program is not final and most of the pilot projects are still in the experimental phase, some lessons can be learned on the technical and organizational aspects. New services for drivers are emerging, and new tools for traffic managers have been developed. Conditions of successful deployment have been identified, such as partnerships formation and institutional issues.
