Abstract
This article describes the reduced-scale improvements to be made to the East Coast main railway line in the UK. Power supplies are to be upgraded on the route through the county of Hertfordshire. An additional section of line in the county of Lincolnshire will remove the delays to main line services caused by local trains needing to use the main line. At the London terminus station King's Cross an extra platform is planned to increase capacity. A reinstated third passenger platform is also planned at Finsbury Park, the first station out of London, to improve capacity and service for commuter passengers. It is expected that these improvements will be sufficient to meet short-term timetable aspirations.
