Abstract

Part 1 Introduction to pump types and their layout: the main components of rotordynamic pumps positive displacement pumps range charts. Part 2 Rotordynamic pump principles: the Euler equation efficiency definitions centrifugal pump principles axial flow pump principles similarity, model laws, specfic speed the effect of changes in density and viscosity specific speed or characteristic number centrifugal impeller and casing geometry axial flow pump impeller and casing geometry hydraulic loads, radial and axial thrust. Part 3 Positive displacement pump principles: basic principles the effect on pressure rise, speed and viscosity the effect of gas content pump protection. Part 4 Pumping system losses and their estimation: losses due to friction losses due to flow through bends, valves and other features typical system characteristics Net System Positive Suction Head (NPSH) or Net Positive Suction Energy (NPSE) the effect of fluid properties. Part 5 Cavitation effects on pumps: cavitation effects criteria used to predict the hydraulic effects noise criteria for rotodynamic pumps sizing of suction to give good NPSEr for centrifugal pumps the effect of hot liquids avoidance of cavitation problems.
